A Yorkshire Legend
.
Many years ago at the coalface
Strangenesses reputedly took place -
Transitions: Men becoming boys;
Men laughing, singing in a treble voice
While playing nakedly with one another's toys
Before returning to their ordinary lives
To be scrubbed of dust and grime
By their children and their wives.
This was in a happier time,
Before disputations, closures, death of
communities, in the far, far distance pending,
With the magic secrets of the darkness
seemingly unending.
.
The Snob
"Ever so pleased to meet you" -
Such a common thing to say;
Far too far below the salt.
I sent you on your way,
And, now I'm old and lonely,
My pretensions I need shed,
Drop rules of play, have you to stay
Enfolded in my bed.
But dare not even whisper!
Lie silent at my breast!
Though I still can't bear poor etiquette,
I pretend you are the best.
.
.
Wrong Place
There was an MP who went mad
When he wasn't allowed to be bad.
His intern from Thanet,
Not born for this planet,
Was here *to find work, not be had.
